SEG was founded in 1953 as a spin-off of wind tunnel testing at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden where an abbreviation of the three engineers’ surnames Soderholm, Engstrom and Gustafsson formed the new name SEG. Transferring their knowledge of strain gauge measuring in aircraft designs to designing equipment for industrial electronic weighing.
Directly from start we designed and manufactured all of our main products. These included load cells using the company’s own strain gauges and electronic equipment for different kinds of scales, also mechanical accessories for application were included in the product line.
For more than 70 years SEG has designed, developed and manufactured industrial weighing solutions and many inventions in weighing has their origin here. Today we have about 60 weighing related patents.
In 2020 SEG was acquired by Palle Serup, owner of Jesma Weighing Solutions and PMW Engineering and became part of Jesma Group.
Significant milestones:
- 1953: Our first strain gauge load cell was manufactured.
- 1955: We received the patent on the compression load cell.
- 1957: The first electronic belt scale. A modular design that lasted until 1978.
- 1961: SEG was incorporated. We started manufacturing our own electronics.
- 1973: Microcomputer based digital scales.
- 1977: Digital belt scales.
- 1981: The patented modular Belt Scales was introduced.
- 1992: The FK Weigh Feeder, using revolutionary new technology, was released.
- 1994: OIML approved belt scale.
- 1996: The Coriolis Mass Flow Meter is introduced.
- 2008: MID approved belt scale
- 2020: SEG is acquired by P. Serup, owner of Jesma Weighing Solutions and PMW Engineering, and joins Jesma Group.
